Padukone, 32, and Singh, 33, met co-starring in the 2013 filming ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’, a modern take on Romeo and Juliet with an Indian twist. They have been in two more movies together, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat.’
The bride was the first to post the pictures from their wedding on her Instagram handle and they immediately went viral, drawing over five million likes and 200,000 comments in a few hours.
Ranveer Singh also published the two photographs on his own Instagram, but they earned fewer likes, 3.5 million.
Filmmaker Karan Johar was the first among the couple’s friends to congratulate them.
Though Johar is not part of Deepika and Ranveer’s wedding he took to social media to wish them well. “Such a stunning gorgeous and beautiful couple!!!! Nazar utar lo! Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh !! Badhai ho !!! Love you both!!! Here’s to a lifetime of love and joy,” Johar wrote on Twitter.
Initial reports said the couple reportedly opted for a strict no-photos policy and urged guests not to post pictures on social media from the ceremony.
Padukone is the only Indian actress to be on Time magazine’s “Most Influential People in the World” list. She is one of Bollywood’s highest paid actresses and has won a slew of awards.
